My name is Jorge Petit. I am 17 years old. I was born on October 11, 2008, in Chula Vista, CA, to my wonderful parents, Jorge Petit and Gabriela Parra. They have always supported me and guided me through life. I also have two loving siblings, Alexa Petit and Carlos Petit who I have bonded strongly and closely. I currently attend Mater Dei Catholic High School. I love Math, Science, Engineering, playing tennis, travelling, mountain biking, and drawing. I want to study Civil Engineering and Business Administration in the future. Since I could remember, I have always had a passion for creating and building things from my own creativity, from drawing dinosaurs and cartoon characters from memory to constructing LEGO creations without any instructions.
My academic life began at British American Institute, a school in Tijuana, Mexico, where my mom was the Academic General Principal. That is where I learned to read, write, and speak both English and Spanish. When I moved to the United States to study at Salt Creek Elementary, I learned to get used to a new culture and make new friends. With time and effort, I adapted and learned a lot of things from others. Towards the end of my elementary years, during COVID-19, in my virtual graduation ceremony, I was surprised and filled with joy by the news that I won the Presidential Award for academic excellence in 6th grade. Later, during my 2 years at Mater Dei Catholic Middle School, I grew in my faith and became more involved in my community. I graduated from 8th grade and received the Seal of Biliteracy Honors.
Since 2015, I have helped binational communities through yearly events such as Coastal Clean-up, Centro del Anciano (a nursing home), Father Joe’s Village, and the Million Meal event.
Since 2019, I have been an intern at Dragon Trade Group a company focused on building top leading brands, wholesale distribution, involved in developing Residencial, Commercial and Industrial Eco-friendly HVAC systems and other related industry products engaging in multi-billion-dollar markets between China, USA, Mexico & Brazil, attending to national and international industry events such as AHR Expo USA-Mexico & Canton Fair in China and visiting Headquarter and Factories Assembly Lines and R&D Departments of Top Fortune 500 & Forbes 2000 Companies.
Starting high school brought new challenges, but it also brought new learning opportunities. During my Freshman and Sophomore years, I joined clubs, played sports, and started a non-profit organization called MSKIDS to help children who have trouble with math. I founded MSKIDS with a mission:
to inspire and teach kids, one Math problem at a time.
The hope and confidence I see in students’ faces when I teach them, it gives me a deep sense of happiness and a desire to give back to even more students. Now, in my Junior year, I continue to take advanced classes, play tennis, do my internship, and work to grow my non-profit internationally, which keeps helping more students. Math has always been something I deeply value and appreciate, so I want to help others feel confident and enjoy learning as much as I do.
