What began as a simple act of helping a student named Raphael, has grown into a community inspiring children across five countries, one math problem at a time.
MSKIDS began unexpectedly, at a small friends and family reunion in summer 2024. That day, Jorge Petit, the founder of MSKIDS, was laughing, playing with his siblings and friends, when a mother walked up to him. She heard he had a passion for Math and wondered if he could help her son, who was struggling with a topic for an upcoming exam. He then smiled and said yes without hesitation.
A few minutes later, the mother introduced Jorge to her son, Raphael. He greeted him warmly, but he noticed Raphael looked nervous and sad. Curious, he asked why he seemed so worried. Raphael explained that he had a math exam the next day, but didn’t understand how to add and subtract negative numbers. Hearing this, Jorge gently told him that they could work through it together.
As they sat down, he began to explain using a simple, real-life example: “If you owe me four apples and then owe me three more, how many apples do you owe me now?” He answered, “I owe you seven apples”. Slowly, his eyes lit up. In just a few minutes, they finished. He looked up and said,
“You teach me better than my teacher.” Those words stayed in Jorge’s mind.
That simple act of helping one child changed everything. Jorge felt a deep sense of happiness and purpose to give back. He realized he wanted to help more kids like Raphael, to give them the same hope and confidence he saw in that moment. From that day on, he began tutoring children who needed extra support and slowly built what would become MSKIDS.
Over time, MSKIDS grew from helping one child at a reunion to reaching students in five countries: the USA, Mexico, Spain, Greece, and China. It now has more tutors, more students, and the same mission that started it all:
